The purpose of this study was to establish the motivation behind entrepreneurship in the paper board manufacturing industry in Kenya and Nairobi was selected for this study. The research objectives were to find out how passion to be an entrepreneur acts as a motivation behind paper board manufacturing, to establish how the need to create value is a motivation behind paper board manufacturing industry, to find out how desire to be in control acts as a motivation behind paper board manufacturing industry and to investigate whether the element of money acts as a motivation behind paper board manufacturing industry in Nairobi Kenya. To achieve the desired objectives, this study adopted a descriptive research design. The study was carried out on all the 25 paper board manufacturing companies within the capital city of Nairobi. Nairobi has an approximate number of 25 paper board manufacturers. The researcher used questionnaires as a major data collection tool. The analysis of quantitative data was carried out using descriptive statistics; this was presented in form of tables and diagrams. The study revealed that, the feelings to be an entrepreneur is not what drove the business people to this sector. Most of them sighted the need to be better than before, while lack of formal employment featured prominently as a motivation. The study recommends that the government should create more employment opportunities to avoid having everybody running to business hence crowding the sector. This will lead to those doing business enjoy little or no meaningful returns.
